After placing in the top 5 of the national finals for Battle of the Kings last year, Michael Noble and the team at Guildford knew that this year their entry had to wow the crowd even more. The Petrali Racer is homage to Joe “Smokin’ Joe” Petrali, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle racing great from the mid-twenties to late 1930s. He won 49 AMA national championship races, a record that stood for 55 years.

Michael Noble set to work with Master Tech Neil Blandford, Guildford to nail the modern-take on a 1935 dirt/flat track racer and did just that. Be it from the fabricated 2-1 stainless exhaust or the matt finish Art Deco Harley paint scheme infused with modern touches such as micro LED indicators, the package draws attention.

Parts Used: 1925 Solo Sprung Saddle, White Nostalgic grips, Hollywood bars. Brass Collectiion consisting of Gas Cap, footpegs, shifter, Derby and timing covers. Screamin’ Eagle air filter, Sportster air cleaner cover, Black Hand control levers. Over components: Custom Chrome square headlight and “Drilled” Retro LED rear light, Thunder Bike Customs front indicators, Drag Specialities rear LED strip indicators, Heidenau K60 Scout 110/80B19 Enduro tyre (front), Duro Median off-road 130/90 – 16 rear, Lowbrow Customs Manta Ray rear fender. Fabrication: 2-1 stainless race exhaust, seat spring mounts, battery tray/shock cover, swingarm fender mounts and struts, number boards and tail light mount. Custom Paint by Image Design Custom.

Newmarket & Norwich Harley-Davidson

Norwich & Newmarket Battle of the Kings Entry

The team at Newmarket & Norwich Harley-Davidson have opted for the Harley-Davidson Roadster to create their ultimate custom ride for this years Battle of the Kings competition. The Roadster was a great base for the teams vision of a cafe racer with a modern twist and a great way to celebrate the 115th year of Harley-Davidson.

The Midnight Racer has been crafted by the team with H-D parts and some fabrication work to create a new mounting point for the exhaust to sit with the rearsets. The riding position is pretty special and the lucky few who have had the opportunity to sit on the Midnight Racer have said it feels, really right.

This is a custom Harley you will recognise.

Parts Used: 55mm clip-on bars, rearset foot controls, 5-3/4in Signature LED headlamp, Café Racer tail section, Bar End mirrors, Diamond grips, LED Speedo/Tacho Combo, Black Wrinkle Derby & Chain Inspection covers, side-mounted Reg plate, Screamin’ Eagle Super Tuner, Vance&Hines Upsweep 2-1 exhaust. Other components: Roland Sands Design velocity stack and Tracker headlamp ring, Burly Café Racer front cowling. Paintwork by Black Shuck Customs. Seat piping by S J Cox Upholstery

Reading Harley-Davidson

Image

Having been involved last year in a very exciting project, rescuing a genuine barn find 1943 WLC ’45. The team at Reading Harley-Davidson wanted to recreate a bike with a similar patina of many hard miles ridden cross country and a ‘shed built’ evolution into a unique custom bike.

The Reading Harley-Davidson entry this year; ‘Dirty Deeds’, has been influenced by the team at Reading Harley-Davidson, along with a huge amount of involvement from the future owner to create many one off aspects to this bike, whilst being beautifully put together by Jimmy Soru in the workshop.

Getting the paint to look spot on has been a huge challenge for Gary at ‘Surrey Customs’  however we all feel he has absolutely nailed it.

The plated rear fender and Turbo air cleaner hark back to the days of using what you had lying around to keep you on the road……..built, not bought!

Parts Used: H-D Brass Collection: hand grips, footpegs, engine covers etc. Other components: Hugger-style rear fender – hand finished with a surprise! Garrett turbo machined and modified into an air cleaner/intake Hand fabricated/modified exhaust system. Amen Sportster fuel tank with custom modifications.
